I was drafted 4/31/53. I was in my 12th week of a 16 week infantry basic training when the fighting stopped. I stayed at Fort Riley till Feb 54, then I went to Germany. I was stationed in Goopigen, about 10 miles out of Augsburg. I was discharged on Feb 2, 1955. I received an early release to return to school at MU. That was an excuse to get
out 3 months early.
I served 21 months and 4 days, actually a real vacation.
Took many 3 day passes as well as 30 days leave, and visited places.
