Marvin Hersh, 85, of Overland Park, KS, passed away Sunday, January 18, 2009 at Shawnee Mission Medical Center.

Graveside services will be 3:00pm Wednesday, January 21, at Rose Hill Cemetery.

Kindly omit flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society or American Heart Association.

Mr. Hersh owned and operated A & H Market, 12th & Michigan, for over 20 years before retiring in 1968. He was a graduate of Manuel High School, was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII where he was involved in survival training for downed pilots and crew and also in decompression chamber training and survival.

Mr. Hersh was a member of Congregation Or HaOlam for the past 5 years. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 57 years, Rosalie Hersh in 2001 and a grandson-in-law, Donnie Mellinger. Mr. Hersh is survived by his wife of 3 years, Elaine M. Hersh, of the home; son and daughter-in-law: Elliot and Betty Hersh, Overland Park, KS; daughter: Denise Diane Hersh, Lee's Summit, MO; grandchildren: Elizabeth Mellinger, Liberty, MO; Jessica Johnson and her husband, Larry, Lenexa, KS; cousin and his wife: Gene and Lorraine Hersh, Overland Park, KS. He was the best father that the children could have, with a great sense of humor, witty, loving and kind and was a good counselor. He enjoyed being out with his family and family was his focus.
