"This was the house we were living in at the start of the Great Depression. It was before refrigerators. We had an ice box with regular ice delivery. Pop (Abe Cohn) was in the furniture business (Kaw Valley Furniture). Me and your Zayda (Louis Cohn) went to cheder around the corner on 4th & Nebraska at Ohev Shalom."
-Fannie Cohn Cohen

"This was the first time we lived in an apartment. It was a 4-Plex. We lived on the bottom on the left hand side. One day Ruby (Baellow), my cousin came running and knocked on the door, he had come over by street car. The first words out of his mouth were, "we received a telegram. Feter Kolman is coming to this country! That was something real big! We went down to Union Station to find out when he was coming in. Once he arrived he moved in with us.

At the alley beside the house is where I used to take a salt shaker out to pour on birds tails to catch them. This house had an ice box. No refrigerator or freezer. Baba (Miriam) & Zada (Velvel Cohn) just lived 1/2 block away in a small house on Orville."
- Zayda Louis Cohn
