Dear Mom,
I must apologize for not writing sooner but I've been keeping the craziest hours for the last 10 days till they ran out of fish. Let me explain. It all started when, as usual I went to the work boss at night find out where I work for the next day. He told me that I work with the fish and to be at the certain place at 4:30. I didn't know what the job was so I didn't ask. My friend who had just walked in asked me where I was working. I said I got it great I have to be at work at 4:30 in the afternoon and work with the fish. The boss heard this and called me and said 4:30AM! So, after they picked me up from the floor I said are you crazy? I'm a US citizen (we don't get up that early!) That didn't help . I was there on time and we went for 15 min on an open truck (it was freezing cold) to a lake and I was given a rubber pair of boots which came to my shoulders and a rubber shirt with short sleeves and a hood to put on it. Al. this was taken place in the dark and i can't count how many times I fell. Then I was told to put grease! fat! sloppy! grease! which was as hard as nails on my arms and hands.

There were 7 of us. 5 took hold of one end of a net and walked across a lake about the size of a city black and me and one other guy (who they probably hated) dragged the other end of the net. I thought I would die. The mud was so hard to walk in and the water up to my knees. If I stopped too long in one place I felt myself going down like quick sand. After that it was easy. We just had to catch six tons of fish (one ton is 262 lbs.) and pass it to a truck chain gang style. Needless to say who did the catching. After we went to eat at 10:00am and were off till 1pm. Then we did the same thing over again except it was so hot at 1pm. I thought I would roast alive.

Today I had it easy. I just had to dig up tree stumps.

Mom, I hope you don't get the impression I'm complaining. All this is my excuse for not writing.

The next time Bill or someone else says "I've had a ha
