"In a 1934 Ford, Louie drove all the kids and Fannie Baellow, and Zayda Kalman to Houston after finishing the year of mourning. The car broke an axle in Oklahoma so they found a small cabin (before motels as they are today) and he thumbed a ride to the city to get a new axel. They got back on the road the next day to see Aunt Esther and Uncle Morris. Aunt Esther wanted everyone to come down to Galveston on the 4th of July. All the kids wanted Zayda Kalman to get into the water but he didn't want to. He walked in to his knees and splashed some water over his shoulders and got out. He had had enough." - Hike
