To my Uncle Max Portnoy

I read the letter that you sent to me on January 25 with much pleasure. That we hear that you are in good health and your children are also well.

The best in life is now for us in our later years. If you are well and can walk around on your feet. For four weeks my wife, Chike was bedridden. She was very sick. Now, thank G-d she is better. While she was sick in bed I did everything because no one was able to help me. And no one is required to help me. It was very difficult for me. Thank G-d she became well. During this time I developed headaches and went to the doctor. He found that I have high blood pressure so he prescribed a medicine sometimes it helps and sometimes not.

This is all the story that I can write about our health. Now you sent me the address of your niece who lives in Kiev. Today I wrote her a letter and I wrote her that I received a letter from you and you want to hear from her and if she wants to also hear from you and can’t answer you and you letters she should write to me and I will send her letter to you. It will take a few days before I receive a reply from her. So if she will answer me I will send the letter to you.

Now you write me that you were invited to Leibel’s (Leslie) wedding. but you couldn’t travel because it was very difficult for you. And I didnt’ even reciev an invitation to the wedding. I know the wedding was on Jan 10. My sister, Esther wrote this to me. From my sister I receive a letter every 10 days. She writes me that she lives in an apartment but it’s hard for her to be alone and she’s become nervous over this. If she were able to be with me together it would be more comfortable for her but of course this is not possible these days.

Uncle Max, write to me what is going on with you and what do you think about freedom and what do the other think. We want everyon to have peace.

Write to me what is going on with Bala’s children and how is her son, Leon who is in the
