Gene Hersh was my mother's only relative who survived the war. Gene was on his way being taken to a nazi work camp but escaped with a couple other boys. He was around 13-14 years old. They were found by some American soldiers who took him to Zurich Switzerland and arranged for him to be in a boarding school (possibly Catholic), eventually studying at Zurich Polytechnic. When he graduated, he made contact with his father's brother Abe Hershkovitz in Kansas City MO. Abe sponsored him. We believe that Abe came before the war.
