Translation:
Center: “Happy New Year! Be happy in everything”

Upper left corner diagonally:
“Having remembered, look; but not remember, having looked”
Which means something like: look at the photo whenever you think of me, don’t just think of me when you happen to take a look at the photo. This is the same saying that I couldn’t make out on the card you sent me previously. Not sure if the sender made up this saying or it was something that people wrote on their photos at the time.

Upper right corner continued into the lower right corner:
“Benya, don’t be surprised by my expression: I put on a serious face and the photographer chided me for being as glum as you, so I had to smile against my will.”

Lower left corner diagonally:
“Judge the original by a copy”
