Hi Mom,
Just thought I'd drop a line. How is everyone and everything at home? Me? I'm sober. I work like a dog, eat like a pig, and sleep like a log.
In case you don't know where to write me you can at
Aranka (Weiss) & Edmund Grosz
34 Muliver St.
Tel Aviv, Israel
The are the sister of Miklos Weissl.
Here are some of my general observations I've made in Europe and Israel:
1. Everyone everywhere likes money
2. Dirty clothes smell.
3. An empty belly hurts.
4. You don't have to be a intellect to buy a large newspaper in Israel. It is only a sign that you have constipation.
I have been at Kibbutz Chofetz Chaim for 4 days and will try another one next week.
In case you know anyone coming to Israel send me:
1. COLOR film
2. Toilet paper
3. A portable radio
4. Cigarettes
Most of these are not a necessities so panic.
I eat at least a loaf of bread a day
1/2 pound margarin
1/2 Bottle jam
2 Oranges, tomatoes and a piece of meat the size of Barbara's little finger.
I get at 5am which is 9pm your time at night. We are 8 hours ahead of you. So when you got to sleep I am getting up. When you eat breakfast I am eating supper.
I work in a chicken coop and see fi the egg has a chicken in it or not. I see it grow and feed it daily. I also see how it is killed.
The land is very nice. There is a sun in the sky all day and star as so much closer and brighter. You go on a bus (when you're not hitching) and share a seat with a chicken being brought home alive.
Everyone here thinks money is to be made very easy in America.
I sleep on a straw mattress and no pillow but I use my jacket which is good. It is very cold at night.
Love,
Joe xx"
